Came here for early dinner on a Sunday, and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't busy. We had a wheelchair which they accomodated us very graciously. The hostess who greeted us was super friendly and hospitable, as well as the lady who let us change tables since the one we were at was too small for the wheelchair and was too cold for someone older. Our server Mike was also very accommodating with alterations to our order due to allergies and sensitivities. He was so attentive to our needs, always checking in on us, answering questions, and refilling our drinks. The prices may seem high at first, but for the freshness of the ingredients, to the quality of the food and fancy combination of flavors and creative recipes, it's worth it. The presentation and plating of the food is beautiful, and the taste is just as good. I wish I took more pictures, but I was so hungry I ate it all very quickly. We had the shrimp and calamari small plate (nice and crisp), the sweet potato fries, and the pan-roasted half chicken plate (sooo delicious.). We are not from the area and just visiting, so not sure when we wil be back, but it was such a pleasant time from start to finish that it will definitely be a memorable one. Oh, and ALL the desserts sounded to delicately crafted and tasty, but we ended up choosing the German chocolate cake, which did NOT disappoint! Not even a crumb left. Thanks to all who helped us today for making it a great experience :)

Agree totally with reviewer Doohee L. comments about the mushroom omelette. The fresh salmon on the salad is prepared to your choice. The server can have the kitchen also replace the vinaigrette dressing with another dressing. The hot tea choices are only a few but are from a quality tea company. Just be aware there is a charge for paying the bill with a credit card.

Stopped by on a Monday after a long day at work. The happy hour special is definitely a must, especially if you like oysters. We ordered four types of oysters, two on the brinier side and two on the creamier. Our favorites were the tuna crudo tacos which were light, crispy, and flavorful. The shishito peppers were also quite good; I like the soy sauce/butter sauce (?) it came with. The wings were a nice surprise; we got them breaded and the blue cheese and sauce on the side was decent accompaniment. Also appreciated that it was on the side--it made for less soggy wings. Crab cakes were also quite flavorful though they didn't really seem "jumbo." We also enjoyed the grilled octopus. It was well-grilled and was the perfect texture and toughness. The mushroom bruschetta was nothing special; it tasted like something you can very easily make at home. Cutesy vibe, service very kind if at times delayed.

Always taken care of at Plate38! I love coming here to support a neighborhood business. Parking: Shared lot Food: Their happy hour is one of the best in Pasadena. They have an array of heavy apps and great assortment of charcuterie and cheese. Note their $1 off oysters between 3-4PM at time of writing! Service: Consistently friendly hospitality. They are the real deal. I've seen them expand over the years and happy to have the extended patio in the summer time. A solid staple to the mid-Pasadena dining scene. Hoping to achieve regular status soon. Salut!

So far my meals here have been consistently good. By that, I mean presented well - the plates are arranged beautifully and the chefs take time to make a quality meal so it tastes likes it's worth the $25-35 for an entree. We were told that meals take about 20-30 mins to prepare as we were deciding. We decided to split the wedge salad (to have something while we waited) and also split the Dijon chicken. Portions were large, so it was definitely enough for two people. We were able to be seated without a reservation and service was frequent- with our drinks always kept full and requests responded to quickly. I vaguely recall ordering a burger here the last time and that it was super good. I'll have to try their breakfast some time. The ambiance is elevated enough where it felt like casual upscale dining - plus I appreciated the heat lamps outside. Place had consistent arrivals - locals know and frequent Plate 38!

AMAZING FOOD & AMAZING SERVICE! It was pretty pricey, but totally worth it! The artichoke is to dieeee for, the oysters are okay (they only had three options available), & the chicken pesto sandwich is KILLER. Also the inside is cute, has a rustic vibe going & there's plenty of seating! Will be coming back for that artichoke!

Plate 38 has quickly become one of my favorite brunch spots, and their Wild Mushroom Omelette is a must-try! Priced at $20, this dish is worth every penny. The omelette itself is fluffy and perfectly cooked, filled with a generous mix of wild mushrooms that add an earthy depth of flavor. The addition of truffle pecorino takes it to another level, offering a delightful richness that complements the other ingredients beautifully. Each bite is a harmonious blend of flavors, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The omelette is also loaded with fresh leeks and spinach, which not only enhance the flavor but add a lovely freshness that balances the dish. The chive crème fraîche drizzled on top is the perfect finishing touch, adding a creamy texture and a subtle tang that elevates the entire experience. It's clear that a lot of thought went into this dish, making it feel both indulgent and comforting at the same time. On the side, the fruit and mixed greens provide a refreshing contrast to the richness of the omelette. The portion size is generous, making it an ideal choice for a satisfying brunch that leaves you feeling full but not weighed down. The atmosphere at Plate 38 is warm and inviting, and the service is top-notch. If you're looking for a delicious and unique brunch experience, the Wild Mushroom Omelette at Plate 38 is a dish you absolutely shouldn't miss!

Food - 3.5 Service - 4.0 Ambiance - 3.5 1st visit to Plate 38, went there for brunch. Reason for my food rating: - portion size good for one person if you are a big eater than might have to order an appetizer or dessert. - food taste is good - oysters: so so -drink taste: so so For the service rating: We sat at the bar top and the first impression our server made was great then he was just socialize with everyone else down at the other end of the bar. I had to flag down a different guy (the guy who posted for me). He made up for the service. He was very attentive by refilling my bottomless mimosas were the glass was empty. For the ambiance rating: The indoor dining is kinda cozy, tables were pretty close from one another. Their outside dining was much roomier. If you want to be a little more intimate than pick outdoor patio seating, and go in the evening. ^*^

Yummy brunch and bar spot! The decor was really edgy and cool and the food was delicious. The portions are generous (these pictures do not do it justice) it was my first time there and when the food arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Service was good overall, but the food did take a bit of time to come out. I think because we went early, but either way the food was good enough to wait. I also appreciate that there is a lot to park in because parking can deter me from places, but this place is solid.
